My mate is going to ask you a question. Where is Jessica Hyde?
If you don’t know UTOPIA, on Channel 4 in the UK, and now on reruns worldwide, you need to catch up. The storytelling, character development, visual style Directed by Marc Munden, and original music by Cristobal Tapia de Veer, are some of the best I have ever seen.
One amazing element of the story involves how its violence and conspiracy mirrors our own society in some respects. Heavy topics like depopulation, population control and genetics are seen through the lens of an underground group of survivors and fighters, who get pulled into the havoc by their own interest in the mystery surrounding a one shot graphic novel.
Adeel Akhtar heads the resistance as Wilson Wilson searching for the beloved Jessica Hyde. He has a Fox Mulder quality about him to begin the series, but as you shall see, things get much worse than Fox ever experienced.
Neil Maskell as RB, and Paul Ready as Lee, are the assassian squad for “The Network”. Lee and RB bring the show to life with intensity, in a controlled way, but their nonchalant attitude hints at that their willingness to do even more damage. Their violence coupled with the music and style is something something out of a Stanley Kubrick movie like A Clockwork Orange.
Season 1 music by Cristobal Tapia de Veer
